Jesus is the Reason for the Season
We have heard these words, seen them on bumper stickers and t-shirts, put on tiny little pins or hand beaded bracelets but what does this Jesus really mean for us as we reflect each day this advent on the coming of our Lord. To say he is the reason, begs the question the reason for what? Could it be commercialism, overspending , excessive drinking, sadness and mourning? If we think about the Bible’s meaning of season it is a special particular time that God is working in the world. As we are reminded in the book of Ecclesiastes “there is a time season to plant and reap and live and die, time for war and time for peace”. Jesus’s season is very different, or is it? “God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world , but that the world through him might be saved. “ The reason is that through Jesus the world might be saved. God’s Shekinah Glory came upon her (Mary) and the most high overshadowed her and for that reason the holy offspring will be called the Son of God. (Luke 1:35) And that’s the reason ,God in the form of Jesus will be walking among us feeling our pain, wiping our tears, giggling with joy and smiling at the face of a child. He came to live out life in all its fullness, in the fullness of time. And the reason for this is so we too can ask Jesus and the Holy Spirit to dwell within us , mature in us, and be new birth in us . Then we can live out our live’s as a true disciple, in the Christmas season and in all seasons, giving and loving, forgiving and sharing, and bearing each others burdens. We born in Christ are his hands and feet in the world. So the world through him might be saved. Jesus is not only the reason for this season, but for all the seasons in our life, as savior, comforter and friend.
